PURPOSE: A method is provided which can convert polycrystalline alumina into single crystalline alumina at a temperature of about 1600 deg.C for a short period of time. CONSTITUTION: The method for manufacturing alumina single crystal by atmospheric sintering method comprises the process of sintering a green compact manufactured by adding single crystal seed to the alumina powder containing impurities at a temperature of 1700 deg.C or less for 1 to 100 hours without controlling of a specific environment in the air, thereby single crystallizing the polycrystalline alumina. The method has a merit that the polycrystalline alumina can be converted into single crystalline alumina at a low temperature of about 1600 deg.C for a short period of time.
