The invention relates to a communication system for trade fairs which comprises the following components: a plurality of exhibitor servers (40) with storage devices (41) for storing exhibitor-related data and visitor-related data, a plurality of interconnected, interactive terminals (21) that are located on the exposition site and that are interlinked with the data base server and the exhibitor servers. Said terminals are provided with a device for verifying the identity of the user (visitor), a selection device with which the user can select a desired exhibitor, a device for inputting personal data of a user corresponding to the selection made, an output device for outputting exhibitor data of the selected exhibitor and a network connection that transmits the exhibitor data to the terminals (21) and the personal data to the respective exhibitor servers. The inventive communication system for trade fairs optimizes the flow of information between the exhibitor and the visitor of the fair and facilitates the accumulation of relevant data on both sides. The user uses a specially designed chip card to input/output data which card can preferably be used for different trade fairs.
