The arrangement detects movement of an armature (9) of the proportional electromagnet. A definite transition of the armature from the holding position to the control region takes place. The arrangement has a mechanism that holds the armature in a rest position as long as the coil (13) of the proportional electromagnet is carrying no current. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: a method of controlling a proportional magnet, especially for clutch actuation in automatic motor vehicle gearbox.
