The eddy cascade, for the dispersion and wind sifting of materials into coarse and fine fractions, has a winnowing air shaft housing (1) with one or more eddy zones (2), a inlet (5), an outflow for fine material with a further sifting zone (6), and an outflow (4) for the coarse fraction. Each eddy zone has one or more gas inflow openings (15) to take a dispersion gas through at high speeds. Each eddy zone also has an overflow (11) with a lower slit (12) for the gas to escape at a defined speed.
