An anode area fits behind an electrode (12) made from carbon fiber (24) and locked in with a smooth bipolar plate (16) on the rear side. Methanol is fed through the bipolar plate laterally or on the rear side. The carbon fiber links to a methanol reservoir (1) via a cord. This link can be a thin capillary (2) and can be separated from a fuel cell (10) mechanically e.g. by a cut-off valve.
