The operating method has the actual position of the positioned object determined by an absolute position source (5) and compared with the required position for controlling the drive motor (2) for movement of the positioned object (3). The values provided by the absolute position source for 2 defined positions are stored and used for calculating the position variation for each increment of the source, one of the defined positions used as a reference position for measurement of the actual position. An Independent claim for a positioning device is also included.
