Method for controlling a system of traffic signals (1) for regulation of traffic flows. According to the method traffic signals are transmitted wirelessly from vehicles (4) to traffic data processing devices (3). The traffic data processing devices process locally acquired traffic data from within a limited area to control local traffic signals. An Independent claim is made for a system for controlling traffic flows, whereby traffic data is collected from a limited local area and used to control only local traffic signals.
