The brake light system has at least one light source or projector for projecting a light beam onto the rear windscreen (2), which incorporates a light interrupter or reflector in the required brake light position, for providing an externally visible brake light indication. The reflector can be provided by a series of silver strips forming mirror surfaces, the light source provided by a laser diode (1).
