Entraining agents which contain hyper-branched polymers and which produce a change other than 1 in separation factor are used in a process for the separation of liquids or condensed gases by extractive rectification . A process (M1) for the separation of liquids or condensed gases by extractive rectification uses an entraining agent which contains hyper-branched polymer(s) (I) and which produces a change other than 1 in separation factor, the total concentration of (I) in the liquid phase being 3-90 (preferably 10-80) wt%. Independent claims are also included for (1) a process (M2) for the separation of liquids or condensed gases by liquid extraction, using a solvent or solvent mixture which contains (I) (concentration as above) and increases the concentration of the required substance in the extract phase; and (2) products separated by these processes.
