The method for information generation in a driver controlled motor vehicle, in which the instantaneous vehicle position is determined and route data and associated attributes for an area around the instantaneous position are read out and output to the driver. The data includes the category of area the driver is directly about to pass through or shortly about to pass through, e.g. suburban area, country roads, etc.
