Method for non-destructive determination of the thickness of depositions and incrustations on the inner walls of fluid-filled containers and pipelines in which the thickness is determined indirectly using ultrasound transmitted through the pipe. The ultrasound is in the frequency range 250 kHz to 2 MHz and travels through walls, deposits and media in the container or pipe. The invention also relates to a corresponding device for method implementation that has an ultrasound transducer (1) that is coupled to the container wall using couplant (7).
