The camshaft (1) has in a predetermined area of each cam (2) a means (5) of fine adjustment of its end position on the camshaft. A spring-loaded locking device is applied in this area to hold the cam in a middle position on the camshaft before its definitive fine adjustment. The fine adjuster may be in the form of a threaded pin which screws into a through-hole (7) in the cam, and the locking device may be a ball (6) loaded by a compression spring, with both located in a recess intersecting the bore of the cam.
