Preparation of oxy, thio, and N-alkenyl compounds by reaction of the corresponding hydroxy mercapto or imino compound with an acetylene in liquid phase in the presence of basic alkali or alkaline earth metal compounds at 40-300 deg C and 0.11-5 MPa absolute. The corresponding hydroxy, mercapto or imino compound and the acetylene are continuously feed and operated for -95% conversion.
