The chromatography column (1) has a data carrier (2) as a transponder label (2) working in the radio frequency, secured by an adhesive to the outside of the column. The label can be covered by a protective layer (3), or embedded in the outer tube forming the column. The column can be shrouded by a plastics shrink film at the label.
