The patient (16) is laid on top of a transfer cloth (14) on a first resting surface (12), then the second resting surface (22) is set so that it is at roughly the same height as the first surface, and then a transfer mechanism (26, 32) is used to pull the transfer cloth and patient onto the second surface. An independent claim is also included for the transfer system, the transfer cloth comprising at least one fabric with one free end and the opposite end capable of being coupled to the transfer mechanism.
