The mattress has a pressure generator filling and emptying gas, air and/or fluid in chambers (1, 2) e.g. hydraulic chambers. The generator is controlled such that the chambers on a top face and a lower side of the mattress are filled and emptied in an operation mode, so that a mattress movement is partially produced between a patient and a patient support i.e. bed, during a process for transferring the patient. The chamber on the lower side is filled and emptied in another operation mode, so that mattress movement is produced together with the patient relative to the patient support. The chambers are made of plastic material and/or textile material. The mattress comprises a rubber layer between the top face and the lower side.
