A hail sensor has a weighing scale (1) with input opening (2) to a funnel with energy absorbing heat insulating coating inside into which the hail falls to exit through the lower opening (4) to a counting sieve (2) with radial grid to spread the hail and electrical recording of the position through which hail stones fall with a computer (5) to compute a size distribution histogram.
