The device (100) has a swivel roller (102) for transferring a pulse if a pipe (108) is introduced into an energy absorbing element i.e. housing (106). An actuator (104) is moved between two positions, where expansion of a disengaging die (110) is prevented and enabled if the actuator is provided in the two positions, respectively. The actuator is held in one of the positions or brought into the position if the pulse is smaller than a pulse threshold value. The actuator is held in the other position and brought into the latter position if the pulse is greater than the value.
