The optical router (15) forms part of a multiplexer and demultiplexer system. There are n fibre inputs and p fibre outputs with a single dispersive system between them. The output fibres are spaced to define a short wavelength distance whilst the input fibres are spaced geometrically defining a large wavelength spacing.
