PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an array waveguide grating type optical multiplexer/demultiplexer which uniformizes loss between channels, reduces the loss and has a high polarized wave extinction ratio.;SOLUTION: In the polarized wave maintaining type AWG of large double refractivity having the polarized wave extinction ratio 20 dB, for connecting positions at the time of connecting a plurality of output waveguides 5 to an output side slab waveguide 4 at an equal interval, the connecting position of the output waveguide 5 to which TE polarized waves are inputted and the connecting position of the output waveguide 5 to which TM polarized waves are inputted are shifted in mutually different directions, and the output waveguides 5 are connected to the output side slab waveguide 4 so as to alternately differ the interval of the connecting positions of the adjacent output waveguides 5.
