The invention concerns a high density optical router (n - p) for fibre arrays comprising n input fibres and p output fibres and a dispersive system set between the input fibres and the output fibres. The output fibres are spaced so as to define a short frequency distance Δs (or dμ), the input fibres are spaced so as to define a large frequency distance Δe (or Δμ), said input spacing Δe and output spacing Δs are such that Δe ≥ n Δs (Δμ ≥ n d μ). The invention also concerns a high density periodic optical multiplexer-demultiplexer for fibre arrays incorporating such a router.
