An electrochromic device with variable optical and/or energetic properties comprises a functional film between two exterior substrates, of which at least one is transparent and at least one is based on polymer film(s), each showing a water vapor permeability of not more than 1 (preferably not more than 0.1) g/m2/24 h. An electrically operated device of the electrochromic type with variable optical and/or energetic properties comprises a functional film of one or more layers between two exterior substrates, of which at least one is essentially transparent, at least one is based on one or more polymer film(s) and each is a water vapor barrier with a water vapor permeability of not more than 1 (preferably not more than 0.1) g/m2/24 h. Independent claims are also included for (1) glazing, especially laminated glazing or double glazing incorporating this device (2) mirrors, especially rear-view mirrors, incorporating this device.
