PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extendible bell-shaped propulsion nozzle simply structured to minimize mass, and having an extendible mechanism operating with high precision.;SOLUTION: The bell-shaped propulsion nozzle includes a first part with a small diameter disposed to be fixed to an engine of a rocket propulsion mechanism and having a generally conical shape, and a second part with a large diameter movably disposed and having a generally conical shape. The mechanism extending the second part of the bell-shaped propulsion nozzle from a loading position I to an operating position II includes a plurality of extension arms distributed around and disposed between the first part and the second part. A first end portion is hinged to a supporting structure portion provided on an outer peripheral surface of the first part, and a second end portion is movably arranged on an inner peripheral surface of the second part so as to turn while decreasing a radial clearance of the second end portion of the extension arm to the first part of the bell-shaped propulsion nozzle. The second part of the bell-shaped propulsion nozzle can be extended in a direction toward a rear operating position II so as to continue to the generally conical shape of the second part of the bell-shaped propulsion nozzle, when turning so as to make the extension arm close to the first part of the bell-shaped propulsion nozzle.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
