PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To contribute to preventing obesity by searching a mitochondrial genomic polymorphism associated with obesity.;SOLUTION: A mitochondrial genomic whole base sequence is analyzed by a direct base sequence determination method in each of 96 young male persons with obesity and non-obesity. Consequently, as a result of comparing the polymorphism frequencies in the obesity and non-obesity groups, T12811C represented by haplogroup M7b2( ND5, Tyr159His ) and other four polymorphisms and 2151insA represented by haplogroup A1a( 16S rRNA ) and other four polymorphisms are found to be significantly associated with obesity( p 0.05 ), in contrast, G13928A represented by haplogroup F1b( ND5, Ser531Thr ) and other three polymorphisms are found to be associated with emaciation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
