PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve drivability by further properly starting an engine. PSOLUTION: This hybrid automobile can automatically stop and start the engine by connecting the engine, a motor MG1 and a motor MG2 installed on a driving shaft via a planetary gear mechanism, and cranks the engine by the motor MG1 in a starting form 1 as starting based on will of a driver when request power Pr* of the driving shaft becomes a threshold value Pref or more when stopping the engine (S106 and S116), and cranks the engine in a starting form 2 as starting not based on the will of the driver when SOC of a battery is less than a threshold value Sref or an air conditioner is turned on (S112 and S116). Cranking torque in the starting form 2 is set smaller than the starting form 1.
