PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simultaneous data acquisition from more than one independently prescribed volume while optimized field uniformity is provided between both the magnetization preparation and data acquisition parts of the acquisition. PSOLUTION: The method is based on the use of a multi-element array coil where individual RF coil elements (RF1, RF2, RF3 and RF4) are more sensitive to one of the separate target volumes (L and R) of interest than to the other volume. In the case of breast imaging, one scenario would have two coil elements (RF1 and RF2) that are designed to be most sensitive to the signal from the left breast (L), and two coil elements (RF3 and RF4) that are designed to be most sensitive to the signal from the right breast (R). An optimized pulse sequence (64) and a reconstruction technique are used to simultaneously acquire two separate sagittal imaging volumes corresponding to the left and right breasts (L and R) with optimized fat suppression.
