PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a diabetic medicine which is obtained from a safety natural compound and has no adverse effect, and also a sweetener for diabetic patients compounding the same. PSOLUTION: The diabetic medicine as, a medicament for preventing or retarding the onset of diabetic complications and a sweetener for diabetic patients, respectively contain erythritol as an effective component. The erythritol can lower the concentrations of glucose in the serum and tissue of the diabetic patient, a reaction material of thiobarbituric acid (TBA) and creatinine (Cr) in the serum, respectively.
