PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved binder for abrasives, excellent in high flexibility, toughness/elasticity and break strength and exhibiting preferable polishing behavior, wherein, nevertheless, polishing coarse particles are firmly bonded. PSOLUTION: The binder comprises an aqueous polymer dispersion containing polymer particles dispersed at least one polymer A1 obtainable by radical emulsion polymerization in the presence of a polymer A2 having a glass transition temperature Tg of -20 to +35°C and synthesized from (1) 50-99.5 mass% at least one ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and/or dicarboxylic acid (the carboxy may form anhydride) or mixture thereof, (2) 0.5-50 mass% at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound selected from esters of ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and half esters and diesters of ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid with an amine having at least one hydroxy and (3) ≤20 mass% at least one another polymer.
