PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance ink jet head and an ink jet printer capable of recording a clear image on a recording sheet and capable of sustaining the function of a protective film over a long term.;SOLUTION: A large number of heating elements 3 and power supply wiring 4 being connected electrically with the heating elements 3 are applied to the upper surface of a head substrate 1 and the heating elements 3 are coated with a protective film 6 containing oxygen. A top board 7 is placed on the head substrate 1 through a specified gap and ink filling that gap is ejected from an ink ejection hole with thermal energy generated from the heating element. In such an ink jet head, an oxide film 3a is formed in the central area of each heating element 3 by oxidizing it from the surface down to an area of a specified depth.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
