PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical circuit arrangement which can achieve switching without instantaneous interruption of a WDM device for an IP terminal by a simple and small-scale circuit.;SOLUTION: By making a WDM portion a redundant arrangement of 0/1 system, working/protection WDM portions are switched. Each WDM portion has the same arrangement, n units of Ether-IF corresponding to lines at a client side, and an optical coupler 21 for multiplexing an optical signal from the client side and for demultiplexing an optical signal from a transmission line side for every wavelength to be outputted to a corresponding Ether-IF. The Ether-IF performs an optoelectronic conversion to an optical signal from each path, temporarily stores the optical signal in a memory, and converts the signal into an optical signal of a predetermined wavelength to be outputted to a path at an opposite side. Upon switching between working/protection WDM portions, a read operation is temporarily prohibited with data write to the memory in both 0 and 1 effective systems. During this prohibition period, the optical output from the working WDM is stopped and the optical output from the protection WDM is made effective, and then the read from the memory is restarted, thereby performing switching without an instantaneous interruption.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
