PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect double feed of sheets and detect whether or not a thickness of the sheet is a predetermined sheet thickness, without allowing occurrence of a sheet jamming.;SOLUTION: In this sheet thickness detecting device 301, an insert sheet which is fed through an insert sheet guiding surface 312a of a guide plate 312 for guiding the insert sheet PA passes between a fixed magnetic field sensor 314 and a magnetic body 313 urged to the magnetic field sensor side and provided with magnetism. The magnetic field sensor is brought into direct contact with the insert sheet, and is provided, at an upstream side in a carrying direction of the insert sheet, with an approach guide inclined surface 314b for guiding the insert sheet to a detection surface 314a.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
