PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing high purity copper from water-bearing impure copper powder containing copper chloride and oxide recovered from a deteriorated copper etching solution etc. generated when a copper-clad laminate is subjected to etching. PSOLUTION: The water-bearing impure metal copper powder containing copper chloride and having 500m average particle size and carbohydrate, such as starch and sucrose, are introduced into a furnace and heat-treated at 1,083-1,300C to manufacture a high purity copper ingot. This manufacturing method can suitably be applied even in the case that the water-bearing impure copper powder is left to stand for a few days after recovery or the powder is finer particle of 50m average particle size.
