PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition excellent in first coat capacifying properties and oil cissing resistance, having water resistance capable of standing retort treatment in can sterilization, comprising a resin component composed of a specific resin mixture and a pigment. ;SOLUTION: This solvent type white coating composition for can comprises (A) a resin component composed of (A₁) 30-50 pts.wt. of an acrylic resin prepared by copolymerizing ≥5wt.% of a compound of the formula CH₂= CHCOOC_nH_2n+1 ((n) is ≥5) or a compound of the formula CH₂=C(CH₃) COOC_nH_2n+1 with a copolymerizable unsaturated monomer, (A₂) 30-55 pts.wt. of an amino resin and (A₃) 5-25 pts.wt. of an epoxy resin in 100 pts.wt. of the total of A₁+A₂+A₃ and (B) a pigment such as titanium oxide.
