PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection method of a magnetic tape drive capable of efficiently inspecting the response of a head unit moving apparatus of a magnetic tape drive under the same condition as that for actual recording / reproduction.;SOLUTION: An inspection tape TT on which servo signals are written while being displaced by prescribed frequency and amplitude in a tape width direction, a response inspection circuit 28 measures a position of the head unit HU actually moved in the width direction of the inspection tape TT in response to the servo signals and calculating a difference between the position and a position at which the movement of the head unit HU is to be instructed in response to the servo signals inspects the response of the head unit moving apparatus 27.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
