PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inspect a characteristic of a reproducing system in a specified frequency by reproducing an inspecting tape recording a single frequency with a device to be inspected and observing its reproducing output level. ;SOLUTION: A reference tape is reproduced by a magnetic recording/ reproducing device to be inspected, that is, a two head helical scan type video tape recorder (device to be inspected). Since the magnetic head 35 [35A, 35B] of the device to be inspected traces making a recording part B of an ITI signal on a track central part of a reference tape a reference, the magnetic head passes through the side (edge) of the recording part A of a single 2.6 MHz signal. Since the reproducing output level from the magnetic head 35 [35A or 35B] is decided by an area that the magnetic head 35 passes through the recording part A, when the presence of the fluctuation of the reproducing output level of the head is observed, whether or not the magnetic head 35 traces the magnetic tape according to the reference is inspected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
