How to identify and isolate cells that produce secreted protein. And due to capturing transiently secreted protein on the surface of individual cells, based on the expression level or specific characteristics of the secreted protein, the method allows for selection of rare cell clones from a heterogeneous population to. Cells producing the secreted protein of a particular feature or secretion levels of protein desired, and is also provided the use of this method for making an organism possessing such cells. In particular, the method can be applied directly to the isolation of antibody-producing transgenic animals or the rapid isolation of specific hybridomas, or to allow rapid isolation of high expression recombinant antibody-producing cell lines. This method is applicable for any cell which secretes a protein.
