PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fractionation method allowing highly precise fractionation without being affected by a particle characteristic, and capable of bringing a fractionation speed into a high speed. ;SOLUTION: A micro flow passage 30 having branched flow passages 31, 32 is formed in a micro-chip 7, and a liquid containing particles 20, 21 such as cells is supplied thereto. The particles are irradiated with light from a light irradiation device 10 just before a branched point, and the light is detected by a photodetector 12. An advancing branched flow passage 32 for the particles is determined based on information therein, a laser 2 is emitted from a laser emitting device 1 to the branched flow passage 31 to block an advance, a shock wave 4 is generated in a liquid thereby, and the particles 21 are deterred from advancing into the branched flow passage 31 to allow the flow to the branched flow passage 32.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
