Cardioprotective composition comprising pyruvate, antioxidant and lipids to protect against oxidative stress

A composition comprising pyruvate, at least one antioxidant and at least one lipid can be used as the active agent in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of cardiac cells to treat heart attack/failure, ischemic cardiopathy or heart oxidative stress related conditions. The composition can also be used for the treatment in vitro of cardiac cells, preferably for the conversation of heart before transplantation. Preferably the lipid is a fatty acid selected from mono-, di- or triglycerides and the antioxidant is selected from vitamin E. vitamin A or carotene.
