A solution (I) comprises at least one acetylated or deacetylated amino sugar/sugars (a) and has a pH of 2 - 5 (preferably 2.5 - 3.5, especially 3). The solution is terminally sterilized. Independent claims are included for: (1) preparation of a medical solution (II) involving providing (I) in at least one compartment of a container; and terminal sterilization of the at least one compartment and its contents; and (2) a container comprising at least one compartment containing (I).
