Alloy contains (in wt.%) 0.15-0.44 carbon, 0.04-0.3 silicon, 0.06-0.4 manganese, 1.2-5.0 chromium, 0.8-6.5 molybdenum, 3.4-9.8 nickel, 0.2-0.8 vanadium, 0.1-9.8 cobalt, 1.4-3.0 aluminum, less than 1.3 copper, less than 0.35 niobium and a balance of iron. An Independent claim is also included for a hot working steel object comprising a pre-material produced by smelting or powder metallurgy having the above alloy composition. The object has a carbide structure with intermetallic deposits.
