A procedure for obtaining pieces containing a reduced-thickness marble platelet, consisting of a translucent marble plate, and two layers of limestone, of the same surface as that of marble, adhered thereto by resin, and prior application of organic dyes to marble surfaces. The set thus formed is unfolded, by longitudinal division by the middle line of the thickness of the marble, parallel to the larger faces, obtaining two equal pieces, of which each consists of a marble platelet with a thickness less than half the thickness initial, and a limestone substrate. After a final polishing operation of the surface of the marble layer, the organic dyes are appreciable through said layer by virtue of the translucent characteristic of the marble material used.
