The invention relates to a method for converting laser pulses of a fundamental wavelength into laser pulses of high harmonic waves, wherein the interaction between a laser pulse of a fundamental wavelength and a non-linear medium, especially a gas, results in the production of laser pulses of high harmonics of said fundamental wavelength, whose photon energy is greater than the ionization potential of the non-linear material, especially a gas, and the laser pulses of the fundamental wavelength, whose time duration T(FHWM) is shorter than an oscillation period of the fundamental wavelength, are superimposed and the relative time position of the pulses can be adjusted in relation to each other.
