Process for the oxidation of poly(arylenesulfide) into poly(arylenesulfoxide) with nitric acid

A process for the oxidation of polyarylene sulfide by use of nitric acid is claimed. Polyarylene sulfide is heated with 60-8 nitric acid such that at least 98% of the sulfide groups are oxidized to sulfoxide groups.
