This invention relates to a method and system, in an adaptive vehicle speed control system, for controlling vehicle speed on a curved path based on the vehicle yaw rate and yaw acceleration. The method includes sensing a yaw rate of the vehicle, determining a yaw acceleration based on the yaw rate, and determining a maximum allowed speed of the vehicle on the curved path based on the yaw rate and the yaw acceleration, the maximum allowed speed being capable of varying continuously. The method also includes limiting the speed of the vehicle on the curved path to a value no greater than the maximum allowed vehicle speed. The system includes a sensor capable of sensing a yaw rate of the vehicle, and a controller capable of determining a yaw acceleration based on the yaw rate, and capable of determining a maximum allowed speed of the vehicle on the curved path based on the yaw rate and the yaw acceleration, the maximum allowed speed being capable of varying continuously.
