A diagnostic method for determining the binding capacity of cells such as platelets or progenitors thereof in a biological sample comprises passing the biological sample over an adhesive substrate immobilised on a solid support under defined flow conditions and for a time sufficient to enable cells from the biological sample to bind to the adhesive substrate, and subsequently detecting cells bound to the adhesive substrate. The method may be used for detection in an individual of the presence of or risk of developing a condition or disorder involving cellular, particularly platelet, abnormalities.
