An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for determining the isotopic ratios of 18O and 1O and 15N and 14N using mass spectrometry comprising a mass spectrometer, a pyrolyzer (2) connected to the spectrometer, a sample input device (1), a sample receiver, and a hood (4) which encloses the inlet region of the pyrolyzer tube (3), the sample input device and the sample receiver.
