A separating material, for the purification of His-Tag proteins, comprises a carrier-bonded tris-(carboxymethyl)-ethylene diamine (TED) derivative chelating agent (I), having an average pore width of more than 1000 Å and/or containing at least one hydrocarbyl substituent. A separating material, for the purification of His-Tag proteins, comprises a carrier-bonded chelating agent of formula (I). [Image] R1alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or heteroaryl containing at least one of N, S, O and P (all having up to 20C); R2 - R4H, 1-20C alkyl, up to 20C aralkyl or aryl having 6-18 ring atoms; and T : carrier. Provided that: (i) T has an average pore width of more than 1000 Å; and/or (ii) at least one of R2 - R4 is other than H. An independent claim is included for a column containing (I).
