PURPOSE: A novel Aspergillus sp. strain mass-producing a thermostable phytase and a method for decomposing phytic acid using the same are provided. Therefore, the microorganism can be effectively used for foods and animal feed-stuff. CONSTITUTION: The Aspergillus sp. 5990 (KCTC 8939P) strain is isolated from the soil and mass-produces a thermostable phytase. And it maintains its activity under conditions of high acidic and high temperature. The thermostable phytase is produced by incubating Aspergillus sp. 5990 (KCTC 8939P) in a medium containing 0.1 mM of calcium chloride and 0.05% of inorganic phosphate at 35 deg. C and pH 7.0 for 4 days. The phytic acid in soybean wastes is decomposed by incubating Aspergillus sp. 5990 (KCTC 8939P) in a medium containing 50% of soybean wastes at 30 deg. C and pH 6.7 for 5 days.
