HYDRAULIC CHAIN TENSIONER FOR APPLYING TENSION TO CHAIN WITHOUT SUPPLYING PRESSURE OF EXTERNAL FLUID

PURPOSE: A hydraulic chain tensioner is provided to regulate the outflow of fluid by operating the tensioner as a self priming pump, and to apply tension to the chain without supplying pressure of external fluid. CONSTITUTION: A hydraulic chain tensioner comprises a piston assembly having a piston bore surrounding a piston(31) and the piston including a hollow; a non-return mechanism combined with the piston not to contract over backlash in extending the piston; an inlet check valve placed below the level of fluid in sinking the end of the piston assembly to regulate fluid flowing into the piston; and an outlet flow control unit placed opposite to the inlet check valve in the end of the piston assembly to prevent inflow of air in extending the piston and to permit the outflow of fluid regulated in moving back the piston. The tensioner is operated as the self priming pump with the operation within the backlash.
