PURPOSE: Provided is a method for coating surface of metal structural body with porous metal-metal oxide layer having strong adherence to easily deposit catalyst on the surface of the metal structural body. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of washing a metal structural body with acid or alkali and drying; wash coating the surface of the metal structural body with metal particles to form a metal layer; partly sintering the metal particles by heat-treating the metal layer at a temperature of 600-1500 deg.C under vacuum or inert atmosphere; and forming a metal oxide film on the metal particle surface layer by calcining the metal structural body coated with the heat-treated metal particles at a temperature of 400-1200 deg.C to form a porous coating layer consisting of metal-metal oxide layered particles. To immobilize catalyst particles to the surface of the metal structural body, the metal structural body where the metal-metal oxide layer is formed by the above coating method, is directly supported in an activated catalyst precursor dissolved solution.
